Our Volume on San Pietro a Pettine Presented

Our research on the chapel of San Pietro a Pettine has just been presented and we can't be happier! The research was launched on last March, when we performed an intensive series of archaeological analyses on the building. The wall structure and its stratigraphy has reveled a long and complex history. Although apparently uniform, walls have "told" us about a foundation between the 11th and the 12th century, when the chapel must have been at the core of an aristocratic estate. In 1127, the whole estate, featured at the time by vineyards, was donated to the Abbey of Sassovivo near Foligno. Rebuilt somewhere around the 13th century, the church partially collapsed again in the 1300s. These two events may be connected to the disastrous 1279 and 1327 earthquakes. Another significant restoration took place sometime between 1440 and 1525: another chronology that may resound with the 1477 seismic crisis. The book launch has taken place within the church itself, which let us show our conclusions with an interactive and practical approach. The presentation was led by the author, Stefano Bordoni. Carlo Caporicci, owner of the building and funder of the research, and the expert in ancient graffiti Piero Trevisi also delivered a speech.
